About
Why local
Local news has thinned out for a generation, and the gap shows. County party meetings can discuss national figures fluently while the county’s own childcare shortage, school results, hospital access, and employers go undiscussed—not from indifference, but because nobody has assembled the facts in one place.
That is the gap this project fills: careful, local, verifiable research about the places our members actually live and organize.
What members get
- County Fieldbooks — what matters in one county: its economy, its institutions, the people who shape outcomes, and the services that address local problems.
- Candidate Playbooks — for Democrats on the ballot, a working brief on the district they are asking to represent.
- Precinct Delegate Books — neighborhood-level maps and guides for people knocking on doors.
Documents are shared privately with individual members, one person at a time. They are not published, sold, or posted publicly.
Who runs it
Fieldbooks Blue is the work of Dan Greening, who spent most of his career in Silicon Valley and has volunteered with his rural Michigan county Democratic party since 2024. He started the project after noticing how little any of them—himself included—could say about their own county’s circumstances.
One person does this, with a lot of help from machines. There is no party organization behind it, and it asks no organization’s permission.
